the best golf swing drill
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of golf swing drills shown to golfers to try and improve their golf swing. However, if I had to choose one as my best golf swing drill, it would be my one arm golf swing drill.
What this drill forces you to do is improve your golf swing sequence and let the club do the work it was designed to do.
It is a difficult golf swing drill for many golfers because most use their upper body too much in the golf swing, in an effort to control the club.
If you try that with just one hand holding the club, you will literally struggle to hit the ball at all.
I recommend working on this drill with both hands, but the primary benefit will come when you train the drill with your lead hand on the club (left hand if you are a right handed golfer).
The lead hand for most golfers is their weak hand, and this drill will really expose your swing flaws when you try it with your lead hand.
How to perform my best golf swing drill
First, grab your sand wedge.
Set up to the ball as you normally would, with both hands on the club.
Next, put your feet together and take your lead hand off the club. Keep your weight distributed evenly on both feet.
Now, hinge your rest so that the club points almost vertically into the air. Do NOT lift your arm or move any other part of your body.
Turn into your back swing as if you are making just a half golf swing… do not make a big turn as if you are hitting a driver.
Also, do not extend your arm further behind you or anything. Just turn your shoulders a bit.
Now, shift the weight onto your left foot and turn the hips toward the target… nice and easy.
The key here is to just let the club fall into the ball. Do NOT try and force the club to hit the ball, or you will miss it completely.
Perform this drill as many times as it takes you to make solid contact five times in a row. Distance and direction are not much of a concern here.
When you are able to make good contact five times in a row, repeat the process, but with your lead hand on the club only.
Make this drill a regular part of your practice.
I recommend following it up with the 9 to 3 drill.
When you get proficient at both drills, you will be well on your way to becoming a good ball striker.
